John Raye is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduation, he won two (2) Ford Foundation Fellowships to do advance study in broadcast journalism at the Washington Journalism Center in Washington, D.C., and the prestigious Graduate School of Journalism, Columbia University in New York.
For 12 years, Mr. Raye was a professional journalist. He anchored major television programs in Seattle, New York and Washington, D.C., before leaving to start a new career as a business entrepreneur, using a public pay phone and the trunk of his car as office space.
His accomplishments and honors are many; he was the founder of the Majestic Eagles, a business development organization created to help aspiring entrepreneurs. He started and organized a Federal Credit Union by raising a record $100,000 dollars in one day! In Washington D.C., he spearheaded a drive to purchase a $375,000 office building which later became his headquarters. He later raised over $60,000 to save the home and headquarters building of renowned historian, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Both had gone on the auction block for non-payment of back taxes.
Mr. Raye is co-author of the business book, "The ABC's Of Starting Your Own Business". He wrote, produced and recorded, "Dreamtime; Finding Success In America", one of his most popular audio-cassette albums. His latest book, "Make Yourself Great...Inspiration For Dark Days and Long Nights" was published last year.
Mr. Raye has traveled extensively including trips to London, South Africa, Liberia, Zimbabwe and Korea. As President of John Raye & Associates, he conducts business and professional development seminars nationwide. Widely known for his inspirational seminars and workshops, Mr. Raye is a much-acclaimed professional speaker, writer and business entrepreneur with the income tax preparation firm, Comprotax, Inc., and the business development firm, the MATAH network. He is also founder and guiding force behind The Genius Group, a private professional and buisness development network.
A long-time advocate of business entrepreneurship, Mr. Raye is currently spearheading a nationwide drive with Comprotax and the MATAH network to encourage more African-Americans to start, manage and operate their own business and to become, in his words, "job makers and not just job takers".
